Police hunt hit-and-run driver after teenager injured

-

Police in Dundee have appealed for witnesses to come forward after a hit-and-run.

The incident happened on Beauly Avenue yesterday at around 12.40pm.

An 18-year-old was struck by a small blue car, which left the scene without stopping.

The injuries were not serious, but the woman was seen “hobbling away” with a small group of people she was with.

Police confirmed she was taken to Ninewells Hospital for treatment to her leg, which is not thought to be serious.

Several residents said the section of road, where the street bends with little visibility due to hedges, is notorious for drivers going too fast.

Sergeant Craig Mcbean, of Dundee’s Road Policing Unit, said: “Thankfully nobody has been seriously injured and we are now working to identify the vehicle involved.

“We would urge anyone who may have witnessed the incident or may have seen a small blue car being driven southwards from Beauly Avenue to come forward.

“Anyone with information can contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 1484 of December 18.”

One nearby resident said she heard a scream and then saw the teenager walking with what she thought was family members.

“She was obviously in a lot of pain though by the look on her face,” the woman added.

Another resident, who was not home at the time of the incident, said the road was particularly icy yesterday morning.

Other residents said the road had been bad for some time.

Tayside Contracts were seen gritting the road about half an hour after the incident.
