Wideman Storey enjoying coach’s help

-

Caley Thistle attacker Miles Storey is counting on the help of coach Barry Wilson to adapt to his new wide role.

Englishman Storey, who returned to Caledonian Stadium for a second spell on a two-year deal after leaving Partick Thistle last summer, has mainly played as a striker during a career which has seen him also feature for the likes of Aberdeen, Swindon Town and Portsmouth.

Former winger Wilson was an Inverness favourite during his own playing career, and Storey credits the Caley Jags’ first team coach with mentoring him in his switch.

Storey said: “I’m learning this position. I have played there quite a lot this season, having predominantly played up front in my career.

“It’s a position I like. I have just got to learn how to make more dangerous runs.

“I can do the stuff where I go outside and cross it, using my pace. I’ve just got to be a bit more clever. The manager, Scott Kellacher and Barry Wilson are working hard on me to do that, so I can play that position better.

“That was Barry’s position – and he’s working his hardest to get my crossing better. I’m working on it. It’s something I need to improve on.”

Storey feels his speed can make him an effective wide outlet for John Robertson’s side, with the 25-year-old adding: “Sometimes it’s easy for people to say just kick it and run, but if you have done it twice you need to calm it down.

“Barry is telling me not to be scared to use my pace, so I have been trying to add it to my game and just trying to play better in that position.”

Storey netted 13 goals in 39 appearances during a successful season-long loan with Inverness during the 2015-16 Premiership season, which earned him a move to the Dons.

Caley Thistle hold their annual general meeting tonight.
