Young Dee star Fisher ruled out for season

From thinking the injury situation at Dens Park was clearing up, Dundee manager James Mcpake may have another mini-crisis to deal with.

Cammy Kerr and Josh Mcpake have both emerged as doubts for Saturday’s clash with Partick Thistle, while promising young centre-back Sam Fisher has been ruled out for the season and will need knee surgery.

“Sam Fisher will be out for six to nine months,” said Mcpake.

“It was an ACL knee injury, plus a couple of other things, in a reserve game for us. He was on loan at East Kilbride and had been doing really well.

“He’ll get surgery in January. “It’s a blow because he would have been there or thereabouts for us. A few teams had asked about him for the second half of the season but we were going to bring him back here to involve him in the squad.

“Josh Mcpake injured his ankle playing in a development game for Rangers on Monday. I don’t know how long he’ll be out for, we’re waiting to hear from Rangers.”

It is understood that Rangers may look to take Mcpake back to Ibrox in January.

The winger arrived on a seasonlong loan but there is a recall option.

Regarding the other injured players, boss Mcpake reported: “Cammy Kerr has had a knee problem for about 10 days. We’ll assess him but he didn’t train today.

“Declan (Mcdaid) is a doubt. “Jamie (Ness) trained fully for the first time today and we’ll see how he is after that. We’re hopeful with Mcghee and we’ll manage Marshall. They’re both too important to risk.

“Forster and Meekings have both trained. This is the best spell Meeks has had and we need to get a run of playing and training.

“We’ve been low on bodies for training but fingers crossed a few of them will be OK.”

Mcpake doesn’t have a specific position in mind as the January transfer window draws closer.

“We want quality but it could be any position,” he pointed out.

“If someone like a Graham Dorrans pops up you go for it. It’s that sort of quality we need to push us on.”
