Stars seeking wins to boost play-off hopes

-

Dundee Stars can move into the play-off spots this weekend if they can beat two teams above them in the standings.

The Stars go on the road to Coventry Blaze tonight before coming home to face Cardiff Devils in a must-win game tomorrow.

Stars head coach Omar Pacha is confident his players can complete a potentially season-defining double.

He said: “Every weekend is huge now. We have an opportunity now to play Coventry, who are ahead of us, and it is a good opportunity to claw our way back even with them but we just have to be consistent.

“I couldn’t fault the effort against Cardiff last Sunday but our execution just wasn’t there.

“Hopefully that comes back and we make sure to work them but also watch Coventry’s top-end players because those are the guys that can hurt us and hopefully we come out with the points.”

He added: “We have to get something against Cardiff. We kind of owe them from the last game and obviously Cardiff are always going to be a tough team to play.

“However, they have a home game and we are on the road, so whoever comes out ready on Sunday will probably get the result, but we have to make sure our special teams are a lot better because they can potentially be the difference maker in that game.”

Dundee forward Anthony Beauregard said: “This weekend is huge. We know where we are right now and I think against Coventry it is going to be a big test for us because we need those points to get us into the play-off spots.

“Then we are at home against Cardiff but after last Sunday we want to show something to our fans and prove that we can battle with the big teams in this league.

“But going down to Coventry, it is important to go there and get points and we need to win those games because there are only about 20 games left, so everyone is a play-off game for us.”

Tonight’s match in Coventry will faceoff at 7pm and tomorrow’s home game against Cardiff begins at 5pm.

Bottom club Fife Flyers strive for valuable points in Manchester tonight in their quest to make the end-of-season play-offs.

Storm have 28 points from 34 games while Fife have 25 points from 34 games.
