Man fined £450 after smashing girlfriend’s window in fit of anger

-

A “tit-for-tat” row with his girlfriend has cost an Angus man a £450 fine and the bill for a broken window after the couple fell out over his damaged motorbike.

Aaron Nicol went to the woman’s home in Caledonian Road, Brechin, on June 14 last year and smashed the bedroom window in a fit of anger.

Nicol’s solicitor Brian Bell told Forfar Sheriff Court the incident had been the result of a fall-out in which the woman had pushed over the 27-year-old accused’s motorbike, causing around £1,400 worth of damage.

“She was fortunate that she didn’t face a conviction, but after the damage was caused Mr Nicol wasn’t particularly pleased and duly smashed the window of the house.

“They are still in a relationship. He tells me things are fine and it was a bit of stupidity,” said Mr Bell.

Nicol, of Union Street, Brechin, who admitted a charge of wilful damage, was told by Sheriff Derek Reekie: “Your record does you no favours.

“You were undertaking unpaid work at the time of this incident.

“In the particular circumstances, where there seemed to be tit-for-tat, both of you behaved in an unacceptable way but I am dealing with you for this.”

Also at Forfar: Thomas Murray, 32, of Westmill, Arbroath was warned he will go to jail if he fails to comply with the terms of an unpaid work order.

Murray was previously sentenced to 250 hours’ unpaid work for offences in June last year including breach of the peace, breach of bail and police assault in two separate incidents.
