Aberdeen manager Derek Mcinnes feels their partnership with Atlanta paid off after signing Venezuela right-back Ronald Hernandez.

The 22-year-old has joined from Norwegian side Stabaek on a four-anda-half-year contract after Aberdeen paid out an undisclosed fee.

Mcinnes and his recruitment team had been monitoring the player and were helped by their MLS partner club in making inroads with his representatives.

“He first came to our attention about six months ago and we have just kept tabs on him,” Mcinnes said.

“One of the leagues that the recruitment team have been concentrating on is the Norwegian league and we thought it was going to be a challenge to get him out of there. it shows you where we are with our collaboration with Atlanta at the minute.

“Once we were speaking with their recruitment team it was a player who they were aware of and had flagged up on their system.

Hernandez could make his debut against Rangers at Ibrox today.

Dons chairman Dave Cormack revealed they had just missed out on a forward player.

Cormack wrote on his Twitter account: “Tried very hard to get another attacking player with creativity. Went to the wire. January window is tough. Strong window though.”

The Dons earlier offloaded James Wilson to Salford and ended Zak Vyner’s loan from Bristol City after the defender suffered a shoulder injury. Out-of-favour midfielder Stephen Gleeson has also left Pittodrie.

Celtic had a quiet deadline day after manager Neil Lennon stated he was happy with his squad, although the Hoops remained on the lookout. Lewis Morgan’s long-awaited move to Inter Miami was finally confirmed.

Motherwell have signed 24-year-old Newcastle winger Rolando Aarons on loan. The right-footed player has made 27 appearances for the Magpies.

Well forward James Scott is set to join Hull after the Sky Bet Championship club had a second bid accepted. The clubs have agreed a fee which could be worth up to £1.5 million to the Lanarkshire club.

Kilmarnock re-signed Kirk Broadfoot from St Mirren months after the defender left Rugby Park and criticised now departed manager Angelo Alessio’s training methods.

St Mirren confirmed they had received an undisclosed fee for the 35-year-old.

Killie full-back Stephen O’donnell earlier turned down a move to Oxford while the Rugby Park side loaned Iain Wilson to Queen of the South.

St Mirren signed 23-year-old Watford forward Alex Jakubiak on loan and allowed 18-year-old left-back Ethan Erhahon to join Barnsley on loan until the end of the season.

Hamilton brought back winger David Templeton from Burton Albion and rejected several bids for both Steve Davies and Mikael Miller.
