Mcginty moves to bolster defence

-

Former Partick Thistle skipper Sean Mcginty is determined to stiffen up the defence at his new club Morton, starting on his debut against Dundee at Cappielow this afternoon.

The one-time Manchester United kid played for the Jags against Arbroath last Saturday – however he was told in midweek that his services were no longer required after Firhill manager Ian Mccall brought in Darren Brownlie from Queen of the South.

Within hours the 26-year-old was picked up by the Greenock club with Mcginty saying: “I found out that I would be leaving Thistle on Tuesday and the Morton manager David Hopkin got in touch very quickly after that.

“I have played against Morton a few times, so I know what they are all about, know how they want to play and joining them was an easy decision to make.

“I know a lot of the boys from playing against them and it is a fresh start for me.”

Hopkin’s side go into the game against the Dark Blues after a 1-1 draw with runaway leaders Dundee United.

Republic of Ireland Under-21 internationalist Mcginty is hoping the form shown on Tayside last weekend continues.

He said: “I am here to help Morton cement their place in the top half of the table. I will give 100% in every game and will do my best to get my new club up the table.

“Morton had a great result last weekend and if it was not for a lastminute goal it would have been an even better one.

“My job is to help keep the ball out of the Morton net and I am aiming to get off to a good start against Dundee.

“I have played against them already this season, so I know what I am in for.”
