Weekends aren’t just about giving ice-based dance shows another go – finding the most medium-sized carrot ones get a look in, too...

-

Sunday was a big day for me – I decided to give Dancing On Ice another go following my traumatising experience with Gemma Collins just before New Year. In all honesty, I have no idea who has left the competition but it still seemed to feature a cast of thousands.

Though I’ve been out of the loop,

I was still well aware of the drama surrounding Caprice Bourret and her decision not to dance with her original partner Hamish Gaman, but it was still surprising to hear people booing when she skated out on to the ice on Sunday.

What has gone on behind the scenes, we may never know, but it still goes to show that the British public don’t like unnecessary dramas on their beloved entertainment shows.

That’s what Eastenders is for! Although, I’m not one to shy away from an inkling of gossip, and rumours that Love Island’s Maura Higgins (who is a contestant on DOI) and her partner Curtis Pritchard (whose brother is AJ from Strictly) are on the brink of a breakup were only fuelled by Maura’s deadpan reaction to Curtis’s advice before she skated. Lord have mercy on his soul.

Anyway, I think there were some good dances on Sunday.

It’s hard to tell what’s good and what isn’t when seeing people skate, as I can barely do a lap of my local rink without holding on to one of the wee penguins the kids use to help themselves get round.

So anyone who manages to stay up deserves a 10 in my book.

Some other weekend viewing of mine was First And Last, a new gameshow to the tellybox in which the aim of the game is to not come first or last.

Being a mostly straight-b student at uni (I was too busy training to become a TV columnist), I would merely just have to submit my exam results and bish, bash, bosh, I’ve won the money. But I appreciate the show nonetheless.

The first challenge saw the contestant standing on the stage with buckets on their heads and their aim was to let go of their buckets in the middle of the pack, ie not be the first or last person to do so.

What a fun way to spend a Saturday evening and that may or may not be a game I will be installing at the next Shearer family party.

That, along with other challenges, which included bringing in the most medium-sized carrot, guessing which Eastenders characters were mentioned not the fewest or most number of times in a song, and trying to guess the price of things on ebay. I’m not sure how long I can stick with regularly watching Dancing On Ice, though I might keep an eye on it for gossip purposes.

But First And Last is definitely being included in my repertoire and friends, family, colleagues and Shelley from the corner shop be warned – I may be trying out a few of these challenges on you.

Prepare your average-sized carrots, now!
