Cancer charities to benefit from dance event’s closing party

-

The organisers behind Dundee Dance Event have revealed the two charities set to benefit from the city’s biggest annual party.

Cancer charities Macmillan and Clic Sargent will receive a share of revenue from the closing party at student union club Dusa on May 3. The announcement coincided with World Cancer Day yesterday.

Dundee Dance Event (DDE) will contribute £1 for every ticket sold for the closing party.

The event has previously donated more than £10,000 to causes such as Diabetes Scotland, Tayside Children’s Hospital and Alzhiemer Scotland.

DDE organiser Mike Mcdonald said: “DDE attendees have helped raise a fantastic amount for our chosen charities over the past few years and hopefully we can raise another great amount for two worthy causes. More than 2,500 people are diagnosed with cancer every year and the work that Macmillan and Clic Sargent do for adults and children living with the disease is amazing.”

Macmillan fundraising manager Madeleine Gillan said: “We’re sure it will be a fun day for everyone and the money raised at the event will ensure we can be there for people affected by cancer.”

Donna Bednarek, local fundraising manager for Clic Sargent, said: “We’re currently supporting 29 children and young people in Dundee and Angus going through cancer and we couldn’t do that without the support of organisations like DDE.”

Tickets for the closing party are available online at Eventbrite and from Threads Clothing, Commercial Street, Dundee.
