Wild weather means Kelty leave it late to score winner

-

As expected, Storm Dennis caused havoc in the non-league fixture list and the Lowland League did not escape.

Kelty Hearts were made to work for the points against Spartans at Ainslie Park in terrible conditions.

Both sides struggled to get to grips with the howling gale and rain and there was very little in the way of quality football.

However, that all changed with just three minutes remaining when Dylan Easton found the bottom corner of Blair Carswell’s net to give Barry Ferguson’s side a vital three points in the battle for the Lowland League title.

Elsewhere, Bonnyrigg Rose defeated Edinburgh University 4-0 at New Dundas Park while East Stirlingshire beat Gala Fairydean Rovers 5-2.

East of Scotland League Premier Division

Hill of Beath slipped further behind Bo’ness United at the top of the Premier League after conceding a stoppage-time penalty at Olivebank to draw 1-1 with Musselburgh Athletic.

Musselburgh were reduced to 10 men on 27 minutes when Brian Martin was shown a red card but Hill of Beath failed to take advantage until Ricky Patrick struck what looked like the winner on 89th minute.

However, in stoppage time Lee Reid was adjudged to have handled the ball and was sent off. Veteran Musselburgh striker Mathu King stepped up and converted the penalty to earn a point for the home side.

First Division Conference A Burntisland Shipyard’s game at Peebles Rovers fell foul of the weather.

However, the Fife side were given an alternative Inter Conference fixture at Hawick Royal Albert that went ahead in equally poor weather at Netherdale Arena

Darrell Anthony was on the scoresheet twice for Burntisland in a 2-2 draw, with both Albert goals coming in the final 10 minutes.

In friendly games, Mark Smith scored twice as Jeanfield Swifts drew 2-2 with Stirling University at Kinross, while St Andrews United beat Junior Premier League South outfit Rosyth 4-3.
