Tayside volunteers recognised with Order of St John awards

-

Volunteers from Tayside have received awards from the Queen.

The volunteers from Dundee and Angus have all either been promoted or appointed to the Order of St John for their efforts to promote safety and health across the region.

There are multiple stages of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem, all sanctioned by the Queen.

Members can either be appointed to the Order or promoted to officers.

Arbroath-based James Williamson and Douglas Adamson from Dundee have become officers.

James is a first responder and defibrillator guardian who was nominated for his efforts in maintaining defibrillators across Arbroath, as well as for responding to cardiac arrests in the town.

Douglas works as an oncologist and has been at Ninewells Hospital since 2002.

He was nominated by a patient for his work in palliative care.

Judith Murray and Gavin Strachan from Dundee, Susan Coull from Montrose and Donald Moore from Monifieth were appointed members of the Order, along with Matthew Hamilton from Blairgowrie.

Donald, Matthew and Gavin provide a transport service to renal patients across Angus, collecting patients from their homes and driving them to and from Arbroath Infirmary.

Judith also works with the patient transport service, co-ordinating driver cover and patient needs.

Susan was recognised for her efforts to raise money for 10 public-access defibrillators.

The group will be officially recognised at an event in June.
