A lot to tempt anglers as reservoir goes on sale

AUCTION: Scenic spot described as ‘jewel in the crown’ given guide price of £25,000

An angler’s dream is to go under the hammer with the sale of a former Scottish Water reservoir.

Den of Ogil near Kirriemuir is one of a string of facilities being offloaded by the water firm and comes complete with fishing rights in what an auction firm has described as the “jewel in the crown” of its latest sale.

The reservoir sits in more than 34 acres at the foot of the Angus glens in an area recognised for its hillwalking, fishing, shooting and deer-stalking.

It is going on offer later this month with a guide price of £25,000, with fishing rights included for the buyer.

The fishing rights were previously leased to the Forfar-based Canmore Angling Club.

Sellers SVA Property Auctions say the reservoir’s surface area extends to more than 20 acres.

SVA director Shaun Vigers said: “Scottish Water continues its strategy of divesting of redundant assets and brings seven lots to auction this month.

“Whilst all the lots offer interesting opportunities for re-development, the jewel in the crown for this auction is unarguably the Den of Ogil reservoir at Glenogil.”

The list also includes a redundant service reservoir at Glenfarg in Perthshire, sitting beside the B996 close to the village. A one-time Perth pub is also on the auction list for the February 26 sale at the Trades Hall in Glasgow. The B-listed former Gowrie House Bar sits on the corner of South Street and Watergate.

Mr Vigers said: “The 2020 programme will build on a successful year in 2019 when, despite Brexit uncertainty impacting the market, SVA Property Auctions held five major auctions and raised a total of just under £5.4 million.

The reservoir at Den of Ogil near Kirriemuir – along with its fishing rights – goes up for auction later this month. The 20-acre water is one of a number of disused Scottish Water assets to be sold off.
