Stobswell clinch title

-

There were celebrations at Charlotte Street after Stobswell secured the Division Four (Midlands) title in some style.

Needing to win to clinch the silverware, Jimmy Michie’s men cruised to a 73-0 win away to Bo’ness that sparked celebrations at the club.

One of the sides that had been hoping for a slip up were Howe Crusaders, who completed their programme with a 36-12 win at Aberfeldy to take second spot.

However, they could be overhauled by Dunfermline thirds who have three games left.

Dunfermline’s firsts were 57-7 winners over Blairgowrie in Caledonia Division One.

The Fifers dotted down six tries to lead 38-7 at half-time.

Injuries meant Blair were down to 13 men for most of the second period and three further tries completed the win for the hosts.

Both Grangemouth Stags and Glenrothes lost ground on the leading four sides after suffering heavy defeats.

Stags were strong favourites when they welcomed Hillfoots to Glensburgh but the visitors emerged with a comfortable 46-13 win.

Glenrothes travelled to meet Aberdeen Wanderers and it proved to be a dismal day for the Fifers who went down 59-0.

With Division Two (Midlands) leaders Carnoustie having no game, nearest challengers Panmure had the chance to cut the deficit if they could get the better of Madras.

The Broughty Ferry men took full advantage, easing to a 52-0 win. Eight different men found their way on to the scoresheet, with skipper Dan Jones leading the way, while Thomas Jarron, Angus Campbell, Rory Seymour, Ethan Snitch, Andrew Barclay, Phil Herd and Andy Philp also crossed the whitewash. Snitch was on target with six conversions.

Harris FP were also comfortable winners, beating Rosyth Sharks 64-5, to put daylight between themselves and Dundee University Medics, who went down 21-10 to Kinross.

There was no change at the top of Division Three (Midlands), with the leading duo both posting bonus point wins.

Pacesetters Dunfermline seconds were 40-15 winners away to Strathmore seconds.

Bannockburn remain hard on their heels after posting a 34-26 win away to Perthshire seconds.

Leading the way in the battle for third spot are Waid FP, who were impressive 45-10 winners over Morgan at Anstruther, while basement side Crieff & Strathearn lost 30-22 to Grangemouth Stags seconds.
