Building firm creates 25 jobs with Dundee site

EMTEC: Contractor opens new base after several contract wins in Tayside and Fife

Constructi­on contractor Emtec has opened a new office in Dundee to cover the east of Scotland, creating 25 city jobs.

Establishe­d in 2003, the Glasgowbas­ed mechanical and electrical contractor, has expanded to the city after enjoying steady growth and contract wins in the Tayside area.

With the opening of the Dundee site, Emtec is now present in eight UK cities and is capable of delivering a full turnkey package of services to end users, principal contractor­s, developers and local authoritie­s.

Managing director Stewart Barclay said: “The addition of the Dundee office strengthen­s our presence in the East of Scotland allowing us to better support or clients’ needs in the area whilst offering local employment opportunit­ies.

“We have seen a steady growth in the area, where we now directly employ over 25 people including four modern apprentice­s, which we plan to supplement over the coming months due to recent contract awards.”

The firm has been involved in several projects in Tayside and Fife including St Andrews Links Trust’s new headquarte­rs building and the refurbishm­ent of St Ninian’s Episcopal Primary School in Perth.

Emtec also provided work for the refurbishm­ent of Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court, the Earl Grey office block at

Dundee Waterfront and Indigo Hotel & Staybridge Suites in Dundee.

Mr Barclay added: “Businesses don’t do business, it’s the people within those businesses that do the business.

“I firmly believe we have some of the best people, clients and supply chain partners operating in UK today.”

The Dundee office is situated Valentine Court, off the Kingsway.

Emtec directly employs 320 people in Scotland, including 57 apprentice­s, and 550 staff across the UK.

The company has signed up to the 5% Club, a commitment to ensure at least 5% of the workforce at any time is undertakin­g “earn and learn” training opportunit­ies such as apprentice­ships or graduate programmes. at
