Man sent to prison for posting naked images of woman online

- CRAIG SMITH

Naked photos of a woman were placed on to an online football chat group by a Fife man, a court has been told.

Peter Chalmers had been on a drinking session before posting five photographs and two videos of the woman. He is now behind bars as a result of his actions.

The woman was upset when she found out through a female friend what had happened.

Chalmers, 31, of Lassodie, near Knockhill, appeared in the dock at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He admitted that on February 9 he disclosed, via social media, photographs and videos that showed a female in an intimate situation without her consent.

He also admitted breaching bail conditions by repeatedly contacting the same woman.

Depute fiscal Dev Kapadia said Chalmers had been out heavily drinking into the early hours of the morning.

At 8.30am the woman woke up to find a message left on her phone by Chalmers.

“She called him and could tell he had been drinking,” added the depute.

Later that morning a man saw videos and images of a woman he recognised had been posted on a What’s App group.

“He was appalled by the images,” said the depute.

“He was of the view they had been put there without her permission given their very personal nature.”

At 12.20pm, the victim was contacted by a female friend who told her about the images.

Defence solicitor Ian Beatson said his client was a self-employed joiner and lives with his mother.

“Within 40 minutes of posting these images he realised how stupid he had been,” he said.

“He tried to remove (them) but couldn’t and then tried to contact the administrator of the group. “He has alcohol issues.”

Of the incident, Sheriff Alastair Brown said: “It has the flavour of extortion about it. He was blackmailing her. Quite often I’m told that people have been stupid but it’s also malicious.”

The sheriff jailed Chalmers for eight months and imposed a fiveyear non-harassment order.
