Sheep sales enjoy a record high at Stirling market
Prices reach new high at Caledonian Marts event in Stirling
Records were smashed for both cast ewes and rams at Caledonian Marts’ weekly sale at Stirling, with cast rams averaging £151.92 and selling for £226 for Hampshires from W & MR Mccoll, Nether Cambushinnie, Braco.
Heavy ewes averaged £143.82 (£29.66 on the week) and sold to £218 for three Texel ewes from R Wardrop & Son, Easter Coates, Upper Largo.
Export ewes averaged £83.42 (£+11.25) and sold to £107 for blackface ewes from T Greer & Sons, Wharlawhill, Fossoway.
Other leading prices: Texel £210 and £200 Easter Coates, Suffolk £190 Ayton (twice), Continental £185 Gilmeadowland, £180 Whitehouse. Beltex £168 Lower Killernie. Suffolk Cross £166 Meikle Seggie, £156 Loig.

Caledonian Marts Ltd also sold 2,089 prime hoggets which sold to a top of £138 for a pen of 64kg Texels from Treetops.
Overall sale average was 241.2ppkg (+1.4p on the week), selling to a top of 305ppkg from WM Bell & Son, Craigend for 37kg Beltex.
