That’s the ticket! – Lottery awards for organisati­ons across Courier Country

FUNDING: £1.5m shared out among groups and clubs to buy new equipment

Art, sport and community groups across Tayside and Fife will receive a share of £1.5 million.

More than 200 organisati­ons in Scotland have been given grants ranging between £500 and £10,000 from National Lottery Awards For All.

In Dundee, nine groups will benefit, including Dundee City Disability Sport, which was given £7,500 to buy more equipment and train coaches to deliver more sporting activities.

Stuart Gray, chairman of Dundee City Disability Sport, said: “On behalf of everyone we would like to express our gratitude to National Lottery players for this wonderful award.

“This funding means we can work with our member clubs to develop new programmes, support coach education and buy much needed equipment.”

Braeview Academy also received £7,500 for sport equipment, while Dundee Sailing Club got £6,878 for a skiff, oars and life jackets, so they can encourage more people to take up rowing.

Leisure and Culture Dundee was given £9,708 to run weekly football sessions.

Outwith sport, Diaosu Limited, Dundee Internatio­nal Women’s Centre, Shopmobili­ty Dundee, the Attic and the Church of Scotland received grants for a range of equipment, workshops and events.

Neighbouri­ng Monifieth Community Council was given £3,320 for VE Day remembranc­e activities.

In Fife, Castlehill Community Associatio­n received £9,500 to help them take over the running of Castlehill Community Centre.

Another recipient was Fife Music Connection­s which will use its £10,000 share to launch music sessions to give people the chance to try an instrument and build their skills.

A £9,950 grant will provide new toilets and flooring at Pittenweem Town Hall.

Other Fife recipients include Culross Developmen­t Trust, Abbeyview Kids Club, Benarty Primary School, Fife Cycle Speedway, Formula 24 Fife and Toby’s Magical Journey, which operates a drop-in centre for childhood cancer patients, survivors and their families in Cupar.

There were six grants given out across Perth and Kinross, the biggest being £9,882 to Esolperth, which will use the cash to teach English to asylum seekers in Perth and Kinross.

Youth groups in Perth will be extended for another six months thanks to a £4,595 grant to Letham for All, while sport groups Perth Railway Boxing Club and Tay Rowing Club were given £7,000 and £5,160 respective­ly.

A National Lottery Awards for All Scotland spokespers­on said: “The variety and scope of the 222 groups receiving funding today showcases the wide range of projects that can be funded through this programme and the difference that the smallest amounts of money can make.”
