Racer crashed into home as mum tended new baby
COURT: Family say driver could have killed someone in high-speed collision
A family have spoken of their shock after a “notorious boy racer” smashed into their home shortly after they arrived back from hospital with their newborn baby.
Robbie Dow lost control of his car at speed and crashed through a fence, across the garden and into the family’s car before hitting the living room window.
Sarah Dunbar said she and her family could have been killed in the incident and said Dow has terrorised their village.
Dow, 22, admitted driving dangerously and at excessive speed in Bankfoot, near Perth, at 9.20pm on July 27.
He admitted damaging property and causing fear or alarm to Sarah and Alan Dunbar when he crashed his 14-year-old Vauxhall Corsa.
The court was told the cost of repairing the damage was around £6,000. Dow escaped uninjured.
Sheriff Gillian Wade imposed an interim ban on Dow and deferred sentence for reports after noting that he already has a string of driving convictions.
She told him: “You can expect a substantial period of disqualification.”
Sarah said: “I was sitting in our living room on Saturday evening and this boy racer, who has been terrorising the village for the past year, was travelling at full speed and crashed through our garden and nearly into our living room window.
“Had it not been for our trailer, he would have come right through the window.
“I had a brand new baby two weeks ago and she was right next to the window in her Moses basket when it happened.
“He also went right into our car, and because he was going at such a speed he moved it and crashed it into our garage.
“My husband had been out at our car only moments earlier. He could have killed my husband if he was still out there.
“He was not sorry, not even one bit apologetic. He showed no remorse. I even asked him if he was on drugs because he was acting so strange.
“We need to get him off the roads. We have been speaking to others in the village and they have been trying to get him banned for a year because of all his previous incidents.”
