Dundee-based Spar wholesaler CJ Lang and Son has joined forces with another city firm to help manage the increased volumes of food being sold by the convenience stores.

Brakes Scotland drivers have been added to CJ Lang’s logistics team to help meet the increased demand at Spar’s 300 shops.

Colin Mclean, chief executive of CJ Lang, said: “We have access to a constant supply of food and drink products from our warehouse as we continue to experience a huge increase in orders from our Spar stores.

Our warehouse team and drivers have been tremendous in maintaining this constant supply.

“Our logistics operation is running smoothly, our warehouse team and drivers have been tremendous in maintaining this constant supply.

“To increase delivery capacities to our 300 Spar stores across Scotland, we have decided to work with local Dundee based food service operator Brakes Scotland, who will provide us with additional transport support.

“These drivers will support our existing core team of drivers who are doing a fantastic job,” he said.

The new initiative brings two local Dundee businesses to work together to keep the supply chain moving as well as help protect local jobs.

Mr Mclean said his staff were working “unbelievably” hard to maintain a constant supply of product to customers.

“We are also very appreciative of the work our suppliers are doing in maintaining a good level of stock,” he added.

The company was established in 1919.
