Cowden boss confident in players’ mentality

-

Cowdenbeath boss Gary Bollan is confident that the ‘strong’ mentality that had grown in the Central Park squad this season will still be in place once football returns even if it is a few months away.

The Blue Brazil were sitting in a play-off place for League One when the game went into lockdown last month and Bollan is confident the club’s best season in six years will provide a platform to go again positively when games start again.

Bollan said: “I have been at the club for nearly two and a half years and during that time the mentality has changed.

“When I came in there had been three years of almost constant defeats along with two relegations and having to survive a pyramid play-off final against East Kilbride on penalties.

“There was an acceptance of losing games and that had to change.

“It was always going to take time as you have to change the attitude or change the players.

“We came through another pyramid play-off final against Cove Rangers and then had a season of progress where we finished sixth.

“Last summer we made plans to put in a push for promotion and part of that was establishing the strongest mentality we could.

“We were never going to win every game but, when we have lost, we have been disappointed and frustrated.

“Losing has not been acceptable to this season’s group of players.”

Bollan added: “If football comes back for this season then this group will still have that mentality.

“If it does not return until next season we would be looking to have as many of them as possible onboard to ensure that we continue to have the right mentality in the changing room.”
