Young Isaac’s marathon effort to help homeless
CHARITY: Tireless four-year-old raises more than £1,500
A four-year-old boy from Fife has raised hundreds of pounds for charity in a challenge inspired by the London Marathon.
Isaac Mcnamee cycled, ran and walked more than 26 kilometres – 16 miles – over three days.
He has raised more than £1,500 for the Bethany Christian Trust to help homeless people.
The youngster clocked up the miles during daily exercise near his home in Thornton with parents David and Laura, who is a hostel manager for the charity.
In one outing alone he pedalled more than 13 kilometres, his longest ever cycle.
Laura said: “We are so proud.” She and David came up with the idea as they considered how they could do something for the charity, for which she is a key worker, through the 2.6 Challenge.
The challenge was launched on Sunday when the London Marathon, which has been postponed until October, should have been held.
Last year, the 26.2-mile run raised more than £66 million for charities and people have been encouraged to undertake fundraising activities around the numbers 2.6 or 26 to help recoup some of the money lost.
Energetic Isaac set out on the first leg of his mini-marathon the very day his parents suggested it.
David said: “He was excited to start and thoroughly enjoyed doing it.
“Because it was all last minute, we were hoping to raise about £150 through friends and family but Bethany shared it on their page and a lot of people have been really supportive.”
