Fans showing support for bigger leagues in revamp
A poll organised by a nationwide fans’ group has shown an overwhelming support for bigger leagues in any SPFL revamp.
Representatives of the Scottish Football Supporters Association [SFSA} are to present their findings to the reconstruction task force following initial talks with co-chairman Les Gray.
The survey attracted 3,250 responses, from fans of all clubs across the country, with 84% calling for supporters to be involved in the decision-making process.
The same number want to see an end to teams playing the same opposition four times a season, whilst 70% are eager for any restructuring of the game to be permanent.
In addition, 64% of respondents believe it would be unfair to relegate teams based on the SPFL’S average-points-per-game method that will see Partick Thistle, Stranraer – and possibly Hearts – drop down a division.
Andy Smith, chairman of SFSA, said: “The message coming clearly from fans is that it is essential that the contribution made by them, financially and emotionally, to the well-being of the game should be recognised.”
