Family of four caught driving up from Yorkshire to Cupar for dog

English drivers have been caught and fined after driving to Tayside and Fife to collect dogs.

A motorist was caught making a five-hour journey from Manchester to Dundee on Saturday morning to buy a puppy.

A second car-load of people was caught travelling to Fife to pick up a dog.

The family of four was stopped near Rugby in the West Midlands yesterday, en route from Halifax to Cupar.

Both journeys involved breaches of strict lockdown laws as they were deemed non-essential

breaching coronaviru­s lockdown rules.

The driver was issued with a penalty and warned to comply with lockdown regulation­s.

Police tweeted: “This driver thought it would be OK to drive from London to Aberdeen to see his cousin.”

They said the family-of-four was attempting to collect the family dog, which was in the care of another relative almost 300 miles away.

Cumbria Roads Police stopped the silver Renault on the M6 and issued a fine for breaching coronaviru­s lockdown rules. The family was then escorted back south.

The Westminste­r government has announced an easing of travel restrictio­ns, allowing people to drive away from their homes to exercise destinatio­ns. However, cross-border travel for such purposes is not allowed and it is also banned in Scotland.
