Knockhill superbikes event bites the dust as organisers target 2021
FIFE: Coronavirus restrictions put paid to annual meeting at popular race circuit
Tens of thousands of motorsport fans have been left disappointed after organisers pulled the plug on this summer’s Bennetts British Superbike round at Knockhill in Fife.
The weekend-long event, which was due to be held from July 10 to 12, always proves popular, with thrill-seekers making the trip to Knockhill for hours of entertainment on the track.
However, with Covid-19 restrictions still in place and unlikely to be sufficiently eased before then, it has been decided no rescheduled event will take place at Knockhill in 2020, with the series due to return in 2021 instead.
Knockhill managing director Jillian Shedden explained: “We realise that a lot of our fans would have been looking forward to the event, and we can only apologise for any inconvenience today’s announcement may cause.

“We’re currently finalising the online system now and will be in touch fairly soon via email to action transfers and refunds.
“Additionally, fans can also opt for a credit to be used at another Knockhill event, or indeed on another activity here later in the year.
“However, we’d ask fans for continued patience while we test and implement the system, before its rollout over the coming days.”
Mrs Shedden said everyone at Knockhill would be working “harder than ever” to ensure 2021 is a huge success, and added that hopes were high that fans would still be allowed to attend this year’s Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship on August 29-30 – another date in the calendar that attracts thousands of people to the kingdom.
“At the moment we are very hopeful that a crowd will be permitted and we are liaising weekly with government agencies to keep abreast of the guidelines.
“In the meantime, again we’re sorry that the British Superbike event will not take place in 2020, and hope that the vast majority of you will understand the decision taken was outwith our control during these difficult times.”
