Bob Servant creator dreams of producing drama set in Dundee

SHOWBIZ: Forsyth says new production label will give him more control

Bob Servant creator Neil Forsyth has launched his own production label and says it would be a “dream come true” to create a show set in his home city, Dundee.

Forsyth’s new label Tannadice Pictures sees him team up with Objective Fiction, the group behind British cult comedy series Peep Show, as well as popular shows Fresh Meat and Toast of London.

The new venture will house all of Forsyth’s new projects and will see him work with other writers to develop new scripted shows for parent company Objective Media.

Forsyth added the move will give him “more control” over how his scripts are developed and means there is more scope to deliver a series all filmed in the City of Discovery.

He said: “It’s really exciting as a writer to be given the chance to have a bit more control over your career.

“Obviously we shot a fair amount of Bob Servant in Broughty Ferry but I’d love to write a drama that was completely immersed in the city, showing every side of it, capturing it’s physical beauty and where the city itself becomes a character in the story.

“That would be a dream come true, so hopefully that happens one day.”

Forsyth and Objective Fiction have joined up before for an acclaimed BBC drama about iconic comedians Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise, named Eric, Ernie And Me.

The news will not affect Forsyth’s other work including the second season of BBC drama Guilt or an adaptation of British drugs baron Howard Marks’ autobiography, Mr Nice.

Forsyth added: “This kind of overall writer deal is very common in America, but less common here, so I’m really pleased that Objective have shown the trust in me to make this level of commitment.”

The Dundee United fan added: “I couldn’t name the company anything else really, I’m just glad the name wasn’t taken.”
