Police are probing a double death tragedy in a Perthshire village.

The bodies of a man and woman were discovered in a house in Almondbank, on the outskirts of Perth.

Officers were called to the property in Scroggiehill on Friday afternoon, after a member of the public raised the alarm.

Police Scotland said the deaths are being treated as “unexplained”, but said they did not appear to be suspicious.

Details of the pair – who are understood to have been a couple – have not been released, but locals named the man as 35-year-old David Bacon.

Residents spoke of their shock, describing former Perth Grammar School student David as friendly and polite.

Floral tributes and cards were laid at the doorstep of the property. One wellwisher left a note addressed to “a friend”.

“Everyone’s just stunned. That’s two families who are left heartbroken. RESIDENT

It is understood the family is waiting for the results of a post-mortem examination.

“It is so sad,” said one local.

“I didn’t know anything had happened until I saw all the police in the street.

“I thought the house had been broken into or something like that, but when they were still there a few hours later I knew something serious must have happened.”

He said: “David was well-known and well-liked here. He had lived in Almondbank pretty much all of his life.

“You’d often see him out and about, walking his dog and chatting to folk.”

Another local said: “You just don’t hear about something like this happening in a wee place like Almondbank.
