Mccolgan eyes British title

-

Dundonian Eilish Mccolgan has signed up for a showdown with fellow world finalist Laura Weightman at the British Championships in Manchester.

The 29-year-old Dundee Hawkhill Harriers runner will be on home turf at her Trafford Stadium base for the 5,000 metres clash on September 4, which will be televised by the BBC.

But the two-day meeting is set to be one of the few domestic meetings this summer with UK Athletics receiving criticism for not drawing up a larger calendar of events.

“There has been a lot of hard work going on behind the scenes to make the organisation and delivery of this event possible,” UKA events director Cherry Alexander said.

“These are unprecedented times, so the championships will have a different feel to them this year, but we will do everything possible to make this a special event for the athletes and coaches.”

Mccolgan, who will be seeking a fourth British title, is expected to chase a 5,000 and 10,000 metres double at next summer’s Olympics in Tokyo.
