Easterby charge given nod

RACING: Extra trip at Ayr should suit Noddyolder

- ANITA CHAMBERS

Tim Easterby’s NODDYOLDER has shown hints of ability over six furlongs and will be suited by going up in trip for the Turnberry Handicap at Ayr.

He ran on into a never nearer fifth of 12 at Haydock last time out and today’s Scotty Brand Handicap might not be as competitive.

Ed and Simon Crisford’s CASTING

VOTE should have no trouble breaking his maiden and it may come in the second division of Windsor’s Sky Sports Racing HD Virgin 535 Novice Stakes.

On his debut at Haydock he found just one too good, Ralph Beckett’s Albaflora, who was also having her first run.

There was certainly no disgrace in coming off second best to her, given she finished second in the Musidora at York on Thursday, but the form has also been boosted by the third, Ed Walker’s Matthew Flinders, who created a good impression when winning at Doncaster.

The duo could enjoy a good afternoon down by the river as earlier on the card their ZAMAANI should take all the beating in the British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes.

Fourth on his debut in that red-hot Newmarket novice race won by Eye Of Heaven, he then had the misfortune of bumping into Owen Burrows’ Twaasol.

It is unlike one from that yard to be fully tuned up first time out but he proved he is way above average by winning the Woodcote Stakes at Epsom next time out.

Zamaani has most to fear from Richard Hannon’s Host, he shaped nicely on his first run too and can be expected to take a big leap forward, but the Crisfords’ runner gets the vote by virtue of having more experience.

Archie Watson’s VARIYANN can bring up a hat-trick in the Free Tips Daily On attheraces.com Handicap.

A maiden in France for Alain de Royerdupre, he won at Haydock off a mark of 75 and followed up off 80 at Goodwood. He can defy another 7lb hike.

MAGICAL RIDE was on a steep upward curve last season and there could be more to come.

Richard Spencer’s sprinter gained his first win off 55 and with three more under his belt was last seen at Ascot off 90.

He was beaten when he stumbled and unseated his apprentice rider but it’s worth chancing he could have strengthened up even more.
