Police say a woman was raped before being found walking the streets of Dundee wrapped in a duvet.

Officers found the 20-year-old in extreme distress on Kirk Street in Lochee just before midnight after receiving a call from a member of the public.

After speaking to the woman, who had a strong Liverpool accent, they realised she had been seriously sexually assaulted.

It is understood she was found close to the multis at Elders Court where she was being comforted by members of the public when police arrived.

Officers are now appealing for anyone who saw her late on Saturday night to come forward.

Detective Inspector Marc Lorente, of Dundee CID, said: “The woman would’ve been very distinctive as she was wrapped in a duvet with a strong Liverpool accent and clearly very distressed just before midnight on Saturday.

“We’re trying to establish the full circumstances so we’re appealing to anyone who has any information or saw anything suspicious in the Kirk Street area around that time to contact us.”

One woman, who lives opposite the multis, said she saw the woman just before midnight.

She said: “I heard someone crying and then 10 minutes later I looked out my window and people were with her trying to help. Two girls and an older man seemed to be comforting her.

“I’ve spoken to the police to tell them what I heard but I didn’t see anything.”

The attack occurred less than 24 hours after a man in his 20s was subjected to a vicious assault in another area of Dundee.

He was attacked by a group of five teenagers, including two females and three males in the Hilltown near to Coldside Church, at the junction of Main Street and Isla Street.

The victim and a friend had been talking with the group walking through Hilltown Park, before they chased after him and assaulted him.

He was left with facial injuries and bruising on his arms and body.

The group were all in their mid-teens. One female was about 5ft 2in, stocky and wearing a purple jumper. Of the three males, one was about 5ft 8in and thin with short black gelled hair and was wearing a red or brown jumper, and another was 5ft 6in, with dark hair and dark stubble.

The police say they would like to trace a woman who came to the victim’s aid immediately afterwards, and the driver of a white taxi who drove past around that time.
