The mother of a young man killed in a horrific crash on a Perthshire road has described her son as “simply the best”.

Lewis Mcewan, 21, died at the scene of a two-car collision on the A84 between Buchany and Callander.

The other driver and his passenger were also hurt in the accident, which happened on Wednesday evening.

Lewis, from Menstrie, near Bridge of Allan, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His mother Louise took to social media to share the heartbreaking news. “Can’t believe you are gone our baby boy,” she wrote. “Our hearts are broken forever.

“Nobody will ever understand the love I had for you... my first born, my heart, my soul, my reason for living. Simply the best.”

Tributes to the Rangers supporter also came from the Alloa-based Wee County True Blues RSG. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Lewis Mcewan, who sadly passed away,” the group shared in a Twitter post, accompanied by a photo of Lewis and Rangers legend Jorg Albertz.

Lifelong friend Amy Dornan posted on Twitter: “Born five days apart, all through nursery and primary school together. Love you unreal amounts Lew.”

Lewis leaves behind parents Louise and Paul and little brother Blair.

Police Scotland has urged any witnesses to the crash, involving a silver Ford Fiesta and a grey Peugeot 3008, to get in touch.

Sergeant Ruth Aitchison, of Stirling’s roads unit, said: “Our thoughts and sympathies are with the family and friends of the man who sadly lost his life in this tragic incident.

“I am asking for anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or either vehicle prior to the crash, to contact us if they have not already done so.”

She said: “We are also asking locals and drivers to review their CCTV and dashcam footage for anything relevant that could assist our investigation.”

The driver and passenger from the second vehicle are recovering in hospital where their condition is “stable”.

Anyone with information about the crash is urged to call police on 101, quoting case number 2813 of July 22.
