Emergency services rush to Fife beauty spot

A major search and rescue operation was conducted at a Fife beauty spot after police, fire crews and specialist water recovery teams were scrambled in the early hours of this morning.

A number of police vehicles and fire appliances were despatched to Lochore Meadows Country Park at around 3.30am this morning to assist in the emergency.

Specialist water rescue and rescue and recovery teams from Glenrothes and Perth were also in attendance.

A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, said: “Crews from Lochgelly and Kirkcaldy fire stations were despatched as well as water rescue units from Glenrothes and Perth to assist in the search.

“Officers conducted a searched of the loch and islands before being stood down at 5.42am.”

A police spokespers­on, said: “Around 3.30am this morning police received a report that a man may have entered the water at Lochore Meadows Country Park.

“Emergency services attended however there was no trace of anyone and nothing at this time to suggest anyone entered the water.

“Inquiries are continuing to trace the man involved to ensure that he is safe and well.”

Meanwhile, a person has been taken to hospital after falling from cliffs near Arbroath around 6.10pm last night.

The all-weather and inshore lifeboats from Arbroath were launched and rescued the casualty.

The RNLI crew took the person back to the lifeboat station, where they were treated by paramedics for what is understood to be leg injuries.
