Kirrie operatic group hopes it will be third time lucky for show

- GRAHAM BROWN

Angus amateur operatic performers are aiming for third time lucky with their postponed production of a popular awardwinning musical.

Kirriemuir Amateur Operatic Society (KAOS) had been due to stage The Mystery Of Edwin Drood in March before Covid-19 lockdown came into place just as they were to start their final dress rehearsal.

Undaunted, they put the show back to September but with restrictions on indoor public performance still not relaxed, they are still unable go ahead.

The show will now become KAOS’S spring 2021 production with the group sharing the hope of the wider theatre industry that restrictions on public performances will be relaxed by then for the murder-mystery musical, based around Charles Dickens’ unfinished final novel.

A KAOS spokesperson said: “Tickets for the original March dates were automatically swapped to the new September dates.

“However, with the show being delayed again, the society feel it is unfair to hang on to ticket money any longer.”

They have been busy refunding money over the last few weeks but still have a handful of customers who bought tickets through Colin Smith’s in Kirriemuir who have yet to apply for their refund.

The final date to request refunds is September 30 by emailing tickets@thekaos.co.uk or contacting 07415 774665.

A spokesperson for the society said: “We were gutted when we had to cancel the show at the eleventh hour, but we are determined to bring this rarely-performed show to Angus audiences.”

We are determined to bring this rarely-performed show to Angus audiences.
