Trump resort protest film tops download chart

DOCUMENTARY: Angus man’s follow-up is big hit on itunes after four-year legal fight

An Angus film-maker’s documentary that was the subject of legal threats by US President Donald Trump has hit the top of the itunes download chart.

Anthony Baxter’s You’ve Been Trumped Too was released worldwide earlier this month by Journeyman Pictures following a four-year battle for distribution.

The Montrose Pictures 2016 release was suppressed following a threat by Mr Trump’s company to take legal action against cinemas showing the film.

It centres on the battle fought by 92-year-old Molly Forbes and fellow residents against Mr Trump’s creation of a luxury golf resort at Balmedie, just north of Aberdeen. Mr Baxter said he was delighted You’ve Been Trumped Too had become the most watched documentary in Britain according to data released by itunes.

The residents were dubbed local heroes and the documentary includes footage of the building of walls of earth around their homes and pensioner Molly’s water supply being severed.

Mr Baxter said: “Mr Trump’s attempts to stifle freedom of speech have ultimately failed.”

The film is the follow-up to You’ve Been Trumped, which was released in 2011 and given its British television premiere the following year after a failed bid by Trump lawyers to keep it off the air.

“We’re pleased to see both films finding an audience ahead of the most important election in US history,” added Mr Baxter.

The US president previously threatened to sue Mr Baxter on Twitter.

The story of the films has gone viral in the United States.

Nearly 800,000 people have tuned in to an interview with the director on television channel TYT.

Other networks in the United States have also featured the film’s release.
