Officers try to ease tensions after sudden death

-

Police are working to ease tensions in a Dunfermline community following the death of a young man.

Detectives have been making door-todoor inquiries in the Touch area of the town following a number of reported incidents in recent days.

It comes after the sudden death of a 20-year-old man at a property in Abel Place.

It is understood police were called to the block of flats at 12.05pm on Friday after a body was found.

Police say the man’s death is currently being treated as “unexplained”, and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal in due course.

Officers are also investigating reports of a large disturbance involving a group of people which took place in the same area at around 10.20pm on Wednesday.

A 30-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with that incident, and further inquiries are ongoing to trace others.

Police have insisted the incidents are being treated as separate at this stage.

Detective Inspector Karen Muirhead, from Dunfermline CID, said: “I would like to make it clear that there is nothing to currently suggest these two incidents are linked.

“We are aware of online speculation and rumours regarding the death.

“Not only is this unhelpful for the inquiry, but it is also distressing for the family of the deceased.”

Neighbours said they had noticed police vehicles around the Abel Place area every day since last week’s reported incidents.

Anyone with information is urged to call the police on 101.
