A pair of Scotland’s national orchestras have announced plans for season 20-21.

The Scottish Chamber Orchestra starts its season tomorrow with a streamed concert from Perth Concert Hall, featuring Nicola Benedetti as soloist in Bruch’s first violin concert, with conductor Maxim Emelyanychev.

This will be the SCO’S first streamed concert since lockdown and is available to watch for free on the orchestra’s Youtube and Facebook channels.

“The lack of live music over the past six months has been so challenging for our sector,” said SCO chief executive Gavin Reid.

“Our last concerts before lockdown were with Nicky and we are so delighted that she joins us for our first concert together.”

Gavin’s counterpart at the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Alistair Mackie, has announced a series of 10 concerts as part of the orchestra’s first ever digital season.

“We were moved and encouraged by the support we received at home and internationally for our efforts to keep bringing music to people during the lockdown period.

“Despite the continued challenges we face, we remain committed to presenting concerts of the very highest international quality that we hope may inspire and encourage us all as we work together to find a way though Covid-19 times.”

Audiences can purchase tickets for RSNO concerts at rsno.org.uk/digital-season. Holders will be able to watch each concert from the date of broadcast until March 2021.
