French Open in sight for Broady
Britain’s Liam Broady is one victory away from his first main-draw appearance at the French Open.
The 26- year- old, ranked 206th, defeated Dutchman Botic Van De Zandschulp 7-6 (7-5) 7-6 (10-8) to move through to the third round of qualifying, where he will take on 12th seed Marc Polmans.
Broady’s victory guarantees him prize money of € 25,600 ( approximately £ 23,000), with tournament organisers prioritising increasing the fund for lower-ranked players in a year offering so little earning potential.
There was disappointment, though, for Samantha Murray Sharan, who lost 6-3 7-6 (7-1) to Australia’s Arina Rodionova.
