• CRICKET:
England players have been cleared to train for the first time since arriving in Sri Lanka after a fresh round of testing for Covid-19 yielded no further positive cases.
Moeen Ali is quarantining for 10 days and Chris Woakes is self-isolating after being identified as a close contact of the allrounder, but all other players are cleared to play after a round of blanket negatives.
• CYCLING:
British Cycling has named Scott Pollock as its new lead men’s sprint coach after being forced into changes in the final months before the rescheduled Tokyo Olympics.
Pollock has been named men’s sprint programme lead, replacing Kevin Stewart who was dismissed in November due to “inappropriate relationships with riders”, and will be tasked with attempting to deliver another strong medal haul with a squad headlined by Jason Kenny.
• RUGBY UNION:
Exeter have had positive coronavirus tests in the camp ahead of this weekend’s Gallagher Premiership round six clash with Bristol Bears, Chiefs’ director of rugby Rob Baxter has revealed.
Baxter said there had been “a slight impact on the availability of players but not huge” as the defending champions, who have Scotland full-back Stuart Hogg in their ranks, prepare to face the second-placed Bears on Saturday.
• GOLF: LPGA
commissioner Mike Whan will step down in 2021 after 11 years in the role.
No firm date has been set for Whan’s departure, but the search has begun for the successor to the 55-year-old, who was a key figure in the LPGA and Ladies European Tour (LET) agreeing to a joint venture which was approved by the LET in November 2019.
