SPFL to investigate Stark’s Park call-off

-

Raith Rovers face an SPFL investigation after successfully having their match against Inverness Caley Thistle postponed.

The Stark’s Park side applied for the call-off after being left without enough players to fulfil the fixture following an ‘outbreak’ of Covid-19 in the playing squad and staff.

The Kirkcaldy club already had some players self-isolating because they were close contacts of friends or family members with the virus.

But the mandatory testing ordered by the SFA when the lower leagues were suspended also returned a number of positive results earlier this week.

It left Rovers without enough players to face Inverness and the SPFL have accepted their request to reschedule the visit of the Highlanders.

Following the successful appeals of St Mirren and Kilmarnock, the SPFL will be under pressure to ensure they get their investigation into Raith’s coronavirus case spot on.

An SPFL statement read: “Saturday’s Scottish Championship match between Raith Rovers and Inverness Caledonian Thistle at Stark’s Park has been postponed after Raith Rovers informed the SPFL that they could not fulfil the fixture.

“Raith Rovers have informed the SPFL that they have had a number of confirmed cases of Covid-19.

“Raith Rovers have been liaising with the SFA, NHS Fife and Scottish Government to establish whether any other players or staff will need to selfisolate.

“Due to the number of players having tested positive or currently self-isolating, the club has informed the SPFL that they have insufficient players to fulfil the fixture.

“As a result, and in line with standard procedure, the SPFL has postponed the fixture pending an investigation into the circumstances leading to the postponement.

“We wish those affected the very best in their recovery and will continue to liaise with Raith Rovers in the coming days.”

With enough players returning from quarantine next week, Raith are expected to be able to fulfil next Saturday’s trip to Hearts and the visit of the Jambos three days later.
