Chelsea star’s brother signs loan deal with Raith Rovers

-

Raith Rovers last night completed a signing double after sealing loan moves for Dundee United midfielder Adam King and Fulham striker Timmy Abraham.

Both have joined Rovers until the end of the season and the club hope to have the paperwork done in time for today’s Championship clash with Dundee.

Abraham is the brother of Chelsea star Tammy and came through the Charlton Athletic youth academy.

The 6ft 1in 20-year-old joined Fulham in 2017 and has spent time on loan at League 1 clubs Bristol Rovers and Plymouth Argyle in the last year.

King, the 25-year-old former Hearts and Swansea City player, has been frozen out of the first-team picture at Tannadice this season under new manager Micky Mellon.

Departing Stark’s Park is winger Ethan Ross, who has been recalled from his loan spell by Aberdeen.

Meanwhile Brad Spencer insists Rovers can be full of pride for the way they have handled their Covid-19 outbreak – even though it left them running on empty in midweek.

The Stark’s Park side pulled off a stunning 3-2 victory over Hearts last weekend, despite having had just one day of training following a rash of coronavirus cases and the squad being forced into quarantine.

Spencer was one of the players who tested positive for the virus and insists the response of the players at Tynecastle was remarkable.

Tuesday’s return match against the Jambos was always likely to be a bridge too far and the 4-0 defeat was hard on the Kirkcaldy club.

But given the circumstances, Spencer insists Rovers cannot allow the hammering to dent confidence.

The 24-year-old, son of former Rangers, Motherwell and Chelsea striker John Spencer, said: “Last Saturday was probably more about adrenaline after being off for 10 to 14 days with boys having Covid and the whole situation of just training once and going straight into the game.

“Then Tuesday probably came a bit too soon for us and it was a tough one to take.

“But if you had said last Friday we would take three points out of six against Hearts we would probably have bitten your hand off for that.

“To be the first team to go and beat them at Tynecastle can give us a lot of confidence and we just need to put Tuesday behind us and know it wasn’t us at our best.

“We just want to go out and try to make things right against Dundee.

“We said on Tuesday we’ve got a lot to be proud of considering everything that’s happened over the last few weeks.

“We just need to take confidence from that and the fact we can go and play against anybody in this league.”
