Appeal for witnesses after two hurt in head-on crash
Police are appealing for witnesses after the drivers of two lorries suffered injuries in a head- on collision on a Fife road.
The incident happened around 7.50am on Saturday, on the A91 between Auchtermuchty and the B937 at Birnie Loch and involved a Warburtons bread delivery van and a gritter.
Police and emergency services rushed to the scene after witnesses raised the alarm.
The road was closed and diversions for motorists were put in place.
It is thought the two vehicles collided in what were understood to be treacherous conditions at the time.
The two vehicles were extensively damaged in the impact with the cabs on both lorries taking the full force of the collision.
The drivers, both men and aged 34 and 49, were the sole occupants of each vehicle. They were taken by ambulance to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee where one remains. The other was discharged.
The condition of one of the men was understood to be serious.
Sergeant Colin Morrison of Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit has made an appeal for anyone in the area at the time who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage to come forward.
He said: “This was a serious crash which has resulted in two men being taken to hospital.
“Our inquiries into the cause of the collision are continuing and I would urge anyone who saw what happened, and has not yet spoken to officers, to come forward.
“I would also ask motorists who were using the A91 on Saturday morning and may have been recording via dashcam devices to check their systems and provide any relevant footage to us as soon as possible.”
The road remained closed throughout the day as crash investigators continued to carry out tests in a bid to determine the cause of the collision.
Police reopened the stretch of A91 to the public at 6pm on Saturday.
