Barr ‘happy’ with Brechin challenge

- EUAN MCARTHUR

Brechin new boy Bobby Barr admits his pals thought he was mad joining the League Two basement boys – but he swears he couldn’t be happier.

Barr signed for Michael Paton’s men just before the close of the transfer window as he left behind Angus rivals Forfar to seal a return to Glebe Park.

The 32-year-old winger’s decision to embark on a third spell at Brechin has raised more than a few eyebrows among his football-mad mates.

But Barr insists dropping down a division doesn’t bother him because he’s already dreaming of building a golden future at his new club.

Barr said: “Some of my pals couldn’t believe it when I signed for Brechin. Honestly, they were really surprised.

“They were saying to me why have you done it and why would you want to drop down a level?.

“So it probably looks like a strange move in their eyes, which I can understand. But, for me, I just love Brechin as a club and see this as an exciting challenge.

“The club has had a few bad years and there’s a lot of work to be done to make sure we stay up this season.

“But that’s the attraction and I’m convinced we can get off the bottom of the table in the weeks ahead.

“I’ve signed an 18-month deal so hopefully there’s better times ahead for everyone.”

Barr is a former teammate of new gaffer Paton and admits he jumped at the chance to join forces with him again.

He added: “I played with Michael both at Brechin and Dumbarton, so we’ve got respect for each other.

“He’s got a great vision for the club and I know how focused he is on becoming a successful manager.

“We had a positive chat. I like what he’s trying to do and he’s so upbeat about it.

“We’ve got lots of good younger players here, so hopefully I can help them with my experience.”
