Wighton will be outand-out striker for Pars, says Crawford

-

Stevie Crawford has vowed to build his Dunfermline attack around Craig Wighton after landing the Hearts striker on loan for the rest of the season.

Wighton had already penned a pre-contract to join the Pars on a twoyear deal in the summer.

But, frozen out of the first-team picture at Hearts, the 23-year-old has made the switch across the Forth early after the clubs reached a loan agreement.

Crawford is convinced the former Dundee attacker has arrived hungry for success after a frustrating conclusion to his near three seasons with the Jambos.

And, aware Wighton has failed to nail down one position in recent years, the Fifers manager insists he views the Scotland under-21 cap as an out-and-out striker.

Crawford said: “Craig broke into senior football at the age of 16 and he has played in the top division, the Championship and went through a number of experiences where he faced injury problems.

“He has played under different managers and worked under different coaches as well, and he plays a number of positions as a striker or in wide positions.

“I mainly see him as a striker, I think that is where his future is for us.

“He is one who will do well for us. He is at a right good age, 23 and he will be 24 in the summer, with a lot of good years ahead of him.

“I know that Craig is hungry, he is ambitious and, if you look at his last calendar year, his goal return is way better than he has managed to do in previous seasons.”
