THAINSTONE – Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 1,644 store cattle, young bulls and young and weaned calves. Bullocks (784) averaged 252.7p and sold to a top of 311.1p per kg for a pen of three 270kg Limousins from Fodderletter, Tomintoul, and £1,480 for a 726kg British Blue cross from Whinnyhaugh, Garmouth. Aberdeen-angus bullocks (125) averaged 243.3p and sold to a top of 264.6p per kg for a pen of three 446kg entries from Gladhill, Garmouth, and £1,440 for a pen of three 626kg entries from Feaval, Birsay. Heifers (636) averaged 243p and sold to a top of 284.7p per kg for a pair of 404kg Charolais crosses from Darley, Fyvie, and £1,480 for a 634kg Limousin cross Craigroy, Dallas. Aberdeen-angus heifers (55) averaged 229.5p and sold to a top of 242.8p per kg for a pen of 416kg heifers from Mains of Inverugie, Peterhead, and £1,265 for a pair of 570kg heifers put forward from Binscarth, Finstown.

Bulls (43) sold to a top of 250p per kg for a 404kg Charolais cross from Lynemore, Grantown-on-spey, and £1,255 for a 606kg Beef Shorthorn cross consigned from Plewlands, Duffus. Young and weaned calves (1) sold to £570 for a 218kg Limousin heifer calf.

The mart said: “A terrific show for quality which was a credit to the producers and was witnessed by a full house of buyers and actively supported by the online bidding. Trade easily maintained last week’s high rates.”
