Calm before storm as Fifers face run of seven games in just 14 days

-

Darren Young watched his East Fife side swat away Clyde at Broadwood and then started to prepare for the calm before the storm.

The Fifers have the luxury of a full seven days between the Clyde game and the visit of Cove Rangers to Bayview on Saturday.

But then starts a run of games the former Aberdeen and Dunfermline midfielder said he has never experienced in his time in the game, with East Fife playing both Tuesday and Thursday, as well as at the weekend, for the next couple of weeks.

“We know it’ll be a tough game against Cove as every game is in this league,” said Young.

“Every team has strengthened so the players will be busting a gut and ready to go.

“We won’t take the game lightly and it’s the start of a very busy schedule, the kind I’ve

never come across. It’s crazy to have seven games in 14 days but we feel we have the squad to cope with it.

“We brought in some fresh legs and have the bodies to get us through.”

One of those recruited to help the Fifers through their hectic spell is returning forward Nathan Austin.

Austin was part of the

Fife squad which lifted the League Two title in 2015-16 before leaving for the full-time ranks and then eventually arriving at Kelty Hearts.

But with the Lowland League having no pathway to resume, the forward was keen to return to action with his former club.

He handed the Fifers a first half lead at Clyde on Saturday, latching on to a long through ball before composing himself and beating David Mitchell.

Ten minutes into the second half, Ryan Wallace’s corner was met by Danny Denholm who sent a terrific looping header into the corner of the Clyde net.

Wallace then got the goal he deserved with a header of his own to make it 3-0.

There was still time for another goal in the game, David Goodwillie pulling back a consolation in injury time.
