Young eyes change in fortunes as Bully Wee come calling at Fifers

-

East Fife boss Darren Young says his side need the narrow margins to start turning in their favour as they prepare to take on Clyde tonight.

The Locality Hub Bayview side fell to a 3-0 defeat to Montrose on Tuesday and welcome the Bully Wee tonight knowing a win could see them jump into the top five but Young admits fine lines have been costing his team.

He said: “We had what was a stonewall penalty denied at Links Park and that was the turning point of the whole game. Nathan Austin gets across the defender who goes through the back of him. The referee took a second to think but did not give it, and then Montrose went up the other end and scored a second.

“Had we got the penalty, we were potentially right back in it. It was similar to Saturday when we thought we had scored with the last kick of the game against Cove. It is just frustrating when things like that keep going against you because they change games.”

Young added: “Tuesday night was a sore one to take, but we just were not quite good enough. We are really disappointed and frustrated with the manner in which we lost the goals. We had more shots in the game, but they were just ruthless and basically scored with every chance they had.

“We know what to expect against Clyde because they made it hard for us last week at their place. It is a massive game because we can either be right back in the mix by moving up a position or two or we could also be dragged down closer to where we do not want to be.

“They scored two cracking goals against Peterhead on Tuesday – and that was without David Goodwillie.

“We just need to put in a similar performance to the first game back and hopefully we can get back to winning ways.”
