Forfar nick vital point with last-gasp leveller

FORFAR ATHLETIC 1 PETERHEAD 1

Forfar left it late to rescue a point against Peterhead, but this result leaves the Loons still rock bottom of League One.

Things could have been much worse for Stuart Malcolm’s side had keeper Marc Maccallum not pulled off a penalty save just moments before Martin Scott’s 86th minute equaliser.

Peterhead came flying out the traps and should have had the lead after less than a minute. Ben Armour got himself round the side of the Forfar defence but his curling effort was straight into the grasp of a grateful Mccallum.

The Blue Toon continued to dominate the opening period but failed to carve out any real chances. A scramble in the box which somehow ended up in the arms of Mccallum in the 15th minute was the only exception.

The second half was to continue in much the same way and the visitors had the lead on the hour mark. Forfar switched off at a free-kick and Hamish Ritchie ran from deep to knock past Mccallum and give Jim Mcinally’s side the lead.

Peterhead had the chance to kill the game in the 84th minute. Scott Brown made his way into the box after a slick counter attack and was tripped by substitute Graeme Holmes. Steven Boyd stepped up to take it but Mccallum dived low to his left to save the poor penalty.

It was a chance that the visitors would live to rue missing as the Loons were level just two minutes later. BJ Coll whipped in a brilliant cross to the back post for Scott to scramble home.
