Brechin boss ready for stern capital test

-

Brechin City player/boss Michael Paton admits tonight’s trip to Edinburgh City will be a stern test of his side’s resilience after losing 4-2 to visitors Albion Rovers on Saturday.

The Glebe Park side sit six points adrift at the foot of League Two and head to the capital to face an in-form City side unbeaten in their last five with Paton saying: “We cannot feel sorry for ourselves because the games are coming thick and fast. No one will hold back for us because we were beaten again on Saturday. We just have to go there and roll our sleeves up, take what positives we can and move on to the Edinburgh game.

“It is all about how we react and the mentality of the squad after having so much praise for our performances in the three games before Saturday. It is a test of their character in how they react after such a bad performance and conceding four poor goals.”

Paton insists his side need to do the basics better if they are to stand a chance of avoiding finishing last, as he explained: “We looked a bit disjointed at times, like we were not sure who was supposed to go and win the ball. It was all the small things adding up to make a really poor performance.

“We are having to work extremely hard for our goals and you could see our heads go down a wee bit when we lost an early goal. It took a bit of time to get us motivated again. At the end of the day, it is 11 against 11, you can go over tactics and shape as much as you want, it is about how much you really want it.”
