De Vita strike delivers body blow to Brechin

EDINBURGH CITY BRECHINCITY

-

2 1

Brechin City went down to a narrow defeat by Edinburgh City at Ainslie Park after the worst possible start, conceding the opener in the first few minutes.

Edinburgh won a corner on the left and Craig Thomson delivered an in-swinger into the box where Danny Handling was first to react, lashing a right-foot drive past David Hutton in the visitors’ goal.

Brechin fought their way back into the game and nearly levelled in the 12th minute when Jonathan Page fired in a right-foot drive which went past the post.

The equaliser was only delayed by seconds, however. The ball was played wide on the right to Adam Devine who raced forward before delivering a pin-point cross into the box for

Bobby Barr who slotted the ball past Edinburgh keeper Calum Antell.

Brechin should have made it 2-1 in 26 minutes when Scott Reekie had a great opportunity to score but Antell brought off a great save.

The hosts had a decent opportunity to regain the advantage in the 53rd minute when Josh Campbell found space for himself in the Brechin box but he scooped the ball over the bar.

The pattern of the opening 45 minutes was continuing into the second half but the Glebe Park men were dealt a body blow in the 69th minute when Edinburgh grabbed the winning goal.

Callum Crane played a pass to Raffaele De Vita wide on the left and the on-loan Livingston midfielder fired a superb right-foot strike into the top corner of the net to give Hutton absolutely no chance.
