Innovation focus for event

A amonggri-technology, animal health and aquacultur­e innovation­s are the topics up for discussion at next week’s Biodundee Internatio­nal Conference.

The free virtual event, which takes place on Wednesday, will include a session focusing on the strengths and opportunit­ies for aninal health, agri-tech and aquacultur­e (AAA) in Scotland.

The session will be chaired by John Mackenzie, chief executive of the Roslin Innovation Centre, and feature four panellists.

They are: David Farquhar, chief executive of vertical farming company Intelligen­t Growth Solutions; Dr Jenna Bowen, a postdoctor­al researcher at Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC); Dr Simon Doherty from the Institute of Global Food Security; and

Dr Lawrence Brown, board member of the British Veterinary Associatio­n’s Scottish Council.

Mr Mackenzie encouraged people to log in for the conference and said: “Scotland has a wealth of internatio­nal assets in our AAA sectors and Scotland’s role in sustainabl­e food production and security has the potential to lead the world in a green recovery, whilst also transition­ing to net-zero.”

Biodundee will be delivered by DC Thomson & Co Ltd for the first time this year and is held in associatio­n with AMICULUM and Medtronic.

The title of this year’s conference is “Life Sciences and Healthcare: Key Sectors for Economic Recovery”.
