Cardle vows Kelty will keep fighting

CLYDE KELTY HEARTS 3 0

Kelty midfielder Joe Cardle insists he and his teammates are itching to set the record straight after going down at New Douglas Park.

John Potter’s side have lost their first three League One matches and have managed to score just one goal – an own goal from Andy Graham in the 3-1 defeat to Alloa.

Kelty controlled the first half and Alfredo Agyeman passed up two glorious chances inside the first 30 minutes, including a contender for miss of the season when he fired over from Kyle Doherty’s cut-back.

Their lack of cutting edge was punished after the restart and Ross Cunningham’s sublime chip put Clyde ahead after 53 minutes.

Euan Cameron drove home to put the game beyond doubt, and there was further misery in the final minutes when a clinical breakaway from Cardle’s corner ended with Cunningham finishing coolly for his fifth goal of the season.

“It’s been the story of the short season so far; we’re not taking our chances and are giving away poor goals,” said Cardle.

“Obviously it has been another bad day, but just like I said last week, we have to dust ourselves down and go again.

“There are only so many times you can say that, the game should have been won in the first half and it’s not.

“The boys are not used to losing and that has obviously been the situation in the last few weeks.”

Potter threw on new signings Scott Mcgill and Darren Lyon in the second half, but the substitutions were unable to turn around his team’s fortunes.

The shell-shocked Kelty players emerged from their dressing room more than half an hour after the fulltime whistle with the words of their gaffer ringing in their ears.

They must now turn their attentions to a meeting with league leaders Dunfermline, and Cardle added: “The manager is obviously disappointed as he knows we’ve got good players there that are not performing.

“Next week against Dunfermline is a huge game for us. You can only be positive, you can’t dwell on what has happened or let your head go down.

“We need to go again and fight and that’s what we plan to do.”
